Anointing
Anointing
Father, we ask that the Spirit of the Lord rest
upon us— the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might
and strength, the spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient awe
of the Lord.
Praying that we will not be vague or thoughtless or
foolish, but will be understanding, firmly grasping the will of the Lord; that we
may ever be continually filled with the Holy Spirit, and with the fruit that
the Holy Spirit produces: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Praying that we walk and live
habitually in the Holy Spirit, responsive to, controlled and guided and led by
the Holy Spirit, so that we will not gratify or carry out the cravings and
desires of the flesh, and not be subject to, or come under the law.
Father, grant that the manifestation of the Spirit
be given to us to profit us in all we do: the word of wisdom, the word of
knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, the working of miracles, prophecy,
discerning of spirits, kinds of tongues and the interpretation of tongues.
Praying that these attesting signs will accompany us
because we believe: In Your name we will drive out demons; we will speak in new
languages; if we pick up serpents or drink anything
deadly, it will not hurt us; we will lay our hands
on the sick, and they will get well.
And, Father, Praying that as we go out and preach
everywhere, You will keep working with us, and keep confirming the message by
the attesting signs and miracles that closely accompany the message.
Father, Praying that our speech and our preaching
not be set forth in persuasive, enticing and plausible words of man's wisdom, but
in demonstration of the Holy Spirit and power, that is a proof by Your Spirit
and power operating through us and stirring in the minds of our listeners and
hearers, the most holy emotions, and thus, persuading them, so that our faith
might not rest in the wisdom of men or in human philosophy, but in the power of
God.
Father, Praying that we retain the standard of
sound words, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus, and that You open
up to us a door for the Word, so we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, in
order that we may make it clear in the way we ought to speak, and that our
speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, so we may know how to respond
to each person.
