 Spiritually Eating and Drinking 230
Turning to God
Lay back in a chair or on the floor.
Rock your shoulders like
you are starting to get up.
Think about what it feels like
to move your shoulders.
Now without actually moving try
to do the same thing again.
Rock your shoulders back and forth.
If you need to do it physically again in
 order to remember do that.
Then go back to doing it without moving.
Practice doing this for a minute or two.
Now apply that same activity to turning to God
Go to one of the pages and
practice turning to God while you go through the page. Pause between each  statement then
turn and trust you are facing toward God.
It might help to think of grabbing
your soul and turning it to
face toward the Lord.
 Clinging to God
(Go to the next exercise if you can’t do this one because of feeling dirty spiritually).
Think observing a child being hurt
a few feet away from you.
Think about reaching out to hold and
comfort them even though
there is still distance between you.
Set a teddy bear on your lap
Take a couple of minutes to practice
holding and loving the teddy bear
with that same thing inside
that you would use to hold the child.
Now reapply that same kind
of holding and loving to God.
Did you hide under the covers as a kid
Wrap up in a blanket.
Some people like to be completely
covered except for their face.
Let yourself feel hidden in the blanket.
Take a couple of minutes to
quietly think of the blanket as
being security to you.
Let yourself love the warmth
and the security of the blanket.
Now think about hugging the blanket,
first with your chest and shoulders
and then with every part of
your soul, everywhere on your body.
Some people can’t relate to a blanket
making them feel secure.
If so, try the compassion/love example
with the child and the teddy bear
in the first section of this
exercise.
Then practice hugging the teddy bear
as in the example here.
Now think about God being here and close
Turn from the teddy bear and take a few minutes to
practice hugging God
and clinging to Him like
King David talked about.
In order to cling to God better it
helps sometimes to go back
and forth between the teddy bear and God.
Even though we don’t want to be
clinging to earthly things,
this is a practical way for you to
learn the spiritual activity of what it is like to
cling to God.
 God as Righteousness and Identity
Put on an old coat.
Take a few seconds to think about
the coat as representing worldly things or
feelings of unrighteousness
that you may be having at this time.
Think about the coat as your human identity.
Now trust that you are before
 the fountain of God
and let Him wash the coat right off of you.
Drop the coat on the floor
behind you while trusting that
the cleansing of God is washing
the unrighteousness away.
Throw a blanket around you
and think about the blanket as the righteousness of God.
Think about the blanket around you
and change to thinking about
the blanket being the presence of
God around you.
Take a minute or two to practice trusting
the closeness of God’s presence as your
identity.
Spiritual Exercises for Entering and Drinking 232
Set the blanket aside and take a few minutes
thinking about the righteousness of God
still being there all around you
just like the blanket was touching you.
Think about God as your identity
in the same place as the blanket was.
Take time to practice holding onto God’s righteousness around you just like you did
with the teddy bear or the blanket
in the exercise of learning to cling to God.
 Entering the Throne Room
When Starting out:
Spread a blanket on the floor
but have part of it cover
and be around your feet.
Take a minute or two to think about the blanket
on your feet
as the ankle deep water at the doorway
to the throne room of God
(Ezek. 47).
Now take the blanket away
and think about the river of God
as still being all around and on your feet
washing you.
For entering when starting out
Tape the short ends of two towels side by side to a broom handle. Tape them so that they hang
down. And, be sure to leave about a hands width
opening between the towels.
Hold the broom with the towels in front of you.
Think about the towels
as the torn veil
the open doorway into the throne room of God.
Physically rock your shoulders
and take a step forward through
the opening in the blanket.
Think about being in the throne room
 the moment the towels
come back together behind us.
Think about Jelly that is not fully jelled.
Think about taking your hand through the
Jelly and how it folds in behind
your hand as you move it though.
Let your heart believe that
as you enter the throne room
the glory of God is folding around and behind
you as you step forward.
Entering while laying down
or at least leaning back in a chair
(this is important for when you lay down
to sleep at night).
Now lay back in a chair or on the floor.
 Without actually moving
try to rock the shoulders inside
of you back and forth in something like a climbing action. When you lay down to sleep it is helpful to do
this same thing with your knees and feet
(otherwise you can enter with your upper body and be in
disbelief about your feet
and you can be shot at while you are sleeping).
Note that you can move your
shoulders as you do this
but the important thing is that you
do the rocking of your shoulders with your
inner being.
The physical movement doesn’t really matter
one way or the other.
 Practice doing that for a
few seconds just enough to know what it feels like.
Think about being at the torn veil
at the open doorway into
the throne room of God above you.
Enter in by rocking the shoulders
of your soul and your knees and feet
in kind of a climbing action.
Trust that you are entering
 the throne room of God
and that His glory is folding
in around underneath and all
around you as you rock your shoulders
and knees back and forth.
Remember that this doesn’t take very
much physical movement.

Spiritual Exercises for Entering and Drinking 233
After learning the exercises above, you should learn to enter by receive the Kingdom of God coming
down onto you from above.
This is the exercise for enter that we use
during the day and for entering to abide.
Do this physically at first then learn to do it with your insides without moving or maybe with only
a little bit of up and down shoulder movement.
Stand up.
Reach above your head and curve your hands like you are grabbing the edges of the torn veil above you.
Then enter by trusting that as you move you hands down and to behind your thighs that the
kingdom of God is coming down all around above and underneath you.
I find that applying the scriptures this way helps me to believe that I am “inside an open heaven.” When I
am in an open heaven above me the angels are free to move around. And this is important for ministry
and for receiving physical healing.
4.9 Here is another way I have taught people when they were just starting out. If they played tent when
they were little...
4.10. Get a card table set it up in the room in front of the person who is learning to enter. Cover the table
with a blanket on three sides. Get two towels and lay them so that they cover the fourth side but have an
opening between them 5-6 inches.
4.11. Have them think about playing tent when they were little.
4.12. While sitting in front of the opening take a few moments to think about entering the tent like when
you were little.
4.13. Next, without actually moving trust that you are entering into the throne room of God by going
through the opening in the towels over the table.
4.14. Stand to the side of a window thinking about the sun is shining through the window.
4.15. Now think about the radiance of God shining through that same window.
4.16. Take a step forward trusting that you are walking into the Light of God coming through the
window. But here again you have to be very careful because the light from the sun is part of the this
physical world and what you are learning to receive from is NOT of this world. If you mess up on this
side of it you can open yourself up for spiritual attack.
5. Open up and Drink
5.1. Think of eating your favorite desert.
Let yourself believe how delicious it is. Observe what it feels like to be open and feeding
on the desert.
5.1a. Or think of a time when you drank from an earthly experience like when someone laughed at your
jokes.
Let yourself believe they enjoyed your joke. Observe what it feels like to be open and
drinking from their laughter.
5.1b. Or, think of when you did something that you felt especially good about doing.
Let yourself believe that what you did was significant. Observe what it feels like to be
open and drinking from what you did.
126Appendix A – Spiritual Exercises for Entering and Drinking
5.1c. Or, think of a time when someone gave you an nice compliment.
Let yourself believe that they meant what they said and that their compliment was true.
Observe what it feels like to be open and drinking from the compliment they gave.
5.2. Now without closing down or cowering, stay open and turn to face toward the fountain of God.
Simply trust you are before the Lord Jesus in all His radiant glory.
In the same way as in the earthly example of drinking—let yourself believe the intensity
of the fountain of God before you here. (This is one of those activities I have spent hours
doing.)
5.3. Get a glass of water and take a few swallows.
5.4. Note what it feels like to open up to the water letting it go inside you.
5.5. Apply the same opening up to God.
5.6. Take a drink again and note again what it feels like to open up and receive the water.
Now take a minute to think about drinking from a bucket or a waterfall that is pouring far
more on you than you could ever drink.
Now practice being open to God and trusting you are receiving His presence just like you
would when you receive from a bucket of water or a waterfall pouring down on top of
you.
CAUTION: When teaching people to open up, especially when using a coat in the exercise below, make
sure that you are to the side of the person and that you are keeping your own heart focused on the Lord.
When teaching them to open up and you have to be careful because there can be a connection of the two
of you when you are opening. NOTE: This is the stuff that affairs are made of! You can do this and you
don’t have to be afraid of it. You just have to be careful because when the two of you are open you can
open up to each other and a kind of spiritual embrace can happen because the person you are teaching is
thankful that you are teaching them. Be on guard and just don’t let it happen!
6. Open up More
6.1. Go through one of the exercises on drinking again.
6.2. Now focus on being more open by putting a coat (or shirt) on but don’t zip it up and don’t put your
arms in the sleaves. Hold onto the front zippered portion at about chest high with your hands. Open your
coat in front of your chest while someone else has their hands on the outside of your hands and is lightly
resisting you from opening your coat.
6.3. Let go of your coat and do the same thing inside without using your physical hands or coat.
6.4. Work on stretching your openness more and more (This is another activity where it is helpful to
spend longer periods of time practicing.)
You can do this same thing when you are in a door way. Put the back of your hands out against the door
jam and push. Think about what it feels like to do this. Now drop your physical hands and do the same
thing inside.
6.5. Think about driving a car while the rain is pounding on the windshield.
6.6. Take a few minutes to trust that you are before the Lord and that His radiance is so intense that it is
pounding down onto you with greater intensity than the rain on the windshield.
6.7. Practice being open to the radiance of God in this way. Take a few minutes to stretch yourself more
open.
Caution: try to remember that it is important to be in the throne room when you are doing this. You

7. Watching Jesus Christ (Relating to the Lord as a Person Here with You)
7.1. Watch someone in the room. It works best to look the person next to you while they are looking at
someone else.
7.2. Now think about what it is like to watch the other person. This is hard to do at first and it is easy to
let your mind wander. Take an minute or so while trying to focus on thinking about what it is like to
watch them.
7.3. Now reapply that same kind of watching to the Lord while trusting that Jesus Christ is right here in
the room with you.
128Appendix A – Spiritual Exercises for Entering and Drinking
8. Hugging Jesus Christ
8.1. Hug a person in the room think about what it is like to have your arms around them and their arms
around you.
8.2. Now take a few minutes to reapply the same thing to God. It may help to hug the other person
briefly while think about what it is like to hug a person.
9. Inner Healing (it may be helpful to have someone with you to help you work through some of
these things.)
9.1. Take a few moments to trust you are before the Lord.
9.2. Now trust you are crawling into His lap like a child crawls into the lap of a parent who is loving and
completely good.
9.3. Open up the area of your chest to God—like in the previous exercise.
9.4. Now ask God to reveal to you ways you have been hurt in the past. Trust you are holding the hurtful
event on a platter to God and that He is reaching into you and is performing surgery to heal the hurt from
what happened.
9.5. If another person was involved speak out that you forgive them for what they did wrong.
9.6. If thinking of what happened makes you feels unrighteous hold what happened on the platter and
trust God to wash it clean. Then trust Him to reach in and do the surgery to heal you.
10. Sanctification — God making you holy.
10.1 You can receive sanctification in some area just like in the exercise above for inner healing.
10.2 Enter, sit on God’s lap, and open your heart up to the Lord as in the previous exercises. When you
have some area of sin that keeps reoccurring you can “confess” it as sin by trusting that you are holding
it on a big plate before the Lord—presenting it as sin before the Lord. Then ask God to reach inside you,
remove it, and make you holy in that area. Then be sure that you pause to give Him time to reach in and
do the work. It only takes a very few seconds.
11. Prayer, Intercession, and Warfare at a Distance
11.1. Trust you are before the Lord and are close to the fountain and the river of God.
11.2. Let your faith grow about the radiance around the Lord and about the turbulence and the power of
the river.
11.3. Pray. If you can face the direction that you believe the thing is that you are praying about.
11.4. Raise your hands when you pray, whenever possible. Then, as the Holy Spirit flows around and
through you trust that He is going and doing the work that you are praying about.
11.5. If you are praying for another person trust you are presenting them before the Lord while you are
praying for them. It is effective to do this even with unbelievers while you are praying for their salvation.
11.6. When praying at a distance for people who are being attacked by the enemy trust that the Light of
the Lord is flowing through you and is going and is driving the enemy away.
Appendix B—What to Do When... 129
Trouble-shooting, What to do When...
Causes of why your back side isn’t protected
Not applying the spiritual exercise for entering doing this will make the glory of the Lord your “rear guard.” Not
really entering because you need to trust God’s righteousness to be washing you, touching you, and to be
“yours.” Trusting God’s righteousness to be yours will make it so that you are allowed to enter. Also, should not
be “reaching” this is explained in the Come and Drink book.
For Warfare That is Coming Against Yourself
While standing before the Lord, hold the attack on a platter before God—trusting Him to fight the attack off of
you.
Trust that the person of Christ is here with you as a warrior. Present what the enemy is doing before the Lord and
trust Him to do battle on your behalf.
Arrows from the enemy
If you feel yourself being hit with what feel like arrows or darts from the enemy (pin-point sharp pains) grab
above the location where you got hit and trust that you are pulling the arrow or dart out. After you grab it and pull
it out make a motion in your hand to break it then throw it away from you, through a window or out through a
wall. Then be sure to enter again and rebuild your faith about being in the throne room. Hold onto the Lord
around you as your shield. Trust Him to be present as a warrior to fight off these kinds of attacks.
Attacked by the Enemy while Sleeping
Keep heart-training and doing the exercises in appendix A. Heart-train using the section about entering the throne
room. Build your faith about the reality of the river and the sea before the throne—it may also help to read the
Come and Drink book. After you learn to enter trust you are laying in the river with your head pointing up
stream. If you lay with your feet upstream you may have difficulty with constipation.
Let your faith grow about the security of being in the throne room and laying in the river of God. It may help to
do the exercise in appendix A using a blanket to teach yourself to trust the closeness of God as your security.
What about staying in the river after you sleep? Use the heart-training to fall in love with God as your security.
As your love grows your heart will take over even after you are sleeping. This way, when you wake up the
presence of God is often stronger than when you first go to sleep.
Pain in Your Head
This can feel like the start of a headache. It may not always be the case but start by treating these pains as arrows
from the enemy. As described above, grab the area above where it hurts and pull it out like it is an arrow. Break it
and throw it away.
Here again, be sure to enter again and rebuild your faith about being in the throne room. Hold onto the Lord
around you as your shield. Trust the person of Christ to be present as a warrior. Trust Him to be fighting off these
kinds of attacks.
Temptation
Heart-training is effective for turning our heart toward God. After that how do we keep from turning away? The
Bible says, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my
rock and my Redeemer” (Psa. 19:14). Applying the principle of God as our rock provides a powerful way of
escape from temptation.
130Appendix B—What to Do When...
1. Let your faith grow about God as your immovable rock.
2. Remind yourself that God is close and that He is not far from you at all.
3. Using the arms of your soul, let yourself reach out and hold onto God as your immovable rock.
If you find this difficult to do go back and do some more heart-training.
4. Whenever you are tempted keep yourself holding onto God as your rock. Doing this makes it
much harder to turn away.
Part of the reason why this principle is so practical is because of how sin works. Sin is an appeal to the hurt,
board, insecure, or angry soul as a twisted means of quenching our thirsty desires. Holding onto God as our rock
gives our soul something to keep doing while we are being tempted. It also gives you time to be asking God
where the problem is and how you can deal with the underlying causes for your areas of weakness.
Pain in Your Ears or Jaw
Don’t rule out physical causes but don’t rule out demonic causes either.
Right side. Pain on the right side of the head, neck, or in the right ear can be the result of thoughts or feelings of
your being unrighteous.
Heart-train on the spot so as to remind yourself that God is your righteousness. Let Him wash
you. Keep repenting until patterns of wrong thinking change.
Left side. Pain on the left side of the head, neck, or the right ear can be the result of worry about the opinions of
other people about your righteousness.
The solution here is the same as above. Heart-train on the spot so as to remind yourself that God
is your righteousness. Let Him wash you. Keep repenting until patterns of wrong thinking
change.
and worry about your own righteousness where you
Pain in Your Chest
Physical causes of pain in the chest can be dangerous see a doctor when there is any doubt.
Don’t rule out the possibility that the Holy Spirit is being grieved or that He is trying to warn you of demonic
danger. Note that I have found these things to be difficult to interpret.
Right side. A cringing kind of pain on the right side of your chest can mean that you, someone you are physically
close to, or someone you love is being attacked by the enemy. It may also mean that any of these people are
receiving demonic suggestions.
The solution is to ask God to lead you and to pray or do warfare as suggested above.
Appendix B—What to Do When... 131
Left side. A cringing kind of pain on the left side of your chest can mean that you, someone you are physically
close to, or someone you love is grieving the Holy Spirit.
The solution is to check your own thinking, repent as necessary and do heart-training to change
your pattern of thinking. If you aren’t aware of anything having to do with yourself begin to pray
and intercede for those around you or those you love. Keep praying until the grieving stops.
Left side for me has been that I was allowing myself to slip into discouragement or disbelief. It wasn’t really
things that I was thinking so much as feelings of discouragement that I was just starting to allow myself to feel.
Reoccurring Sin?
Heart-train that whatever it is that you are being tempted with something like this: “ __________ is not my
friend. __________ is not what I love. I set myself before the Lord and God before me here. It is God and His
kingdom that I love. It is God and His beauty and power that is my real desire. God is what I crave. God is what I
long for.”
Then apply what it says in the next section immediately below.
Being Shot at with “flaming arrows of the enemy?”
Read the section in the last chapter titled, “Abide Beyond the Arrows of the Devil.”
After you have entered, focus on clinging to God’s kingdom that you are believing is all around you. When you
are tempted turn your heart back to the kingdom of God around you that is not of this world. Remind yourself
that you are dead to this world and alive to God. Set your heart to be drinking from His kingdom and not from
this world, not just in front of you but all around you.
132Appendix C—The NAME of the Lord as His Presence Here
This section is intended for teaching about how the presence of God relates to the NAME of the Lord. The
main thing I want you to see is that our heart-training, thanks, and praise to God must be directed to the
person of God—who is with us here.
Not all occurrences of the word “name” in scripture refer to the presence of God. A few are used as in the phrase,
“for His name sake.” However, the vast majority of the verses that are clear in their meaning say that the name of
the Lord is the same as saying the presence of God Himself.
This teaching should have profound influence on how we relate to God and to where we direct praise to Him.
Also note that almost all of my experiences in the workplace with healing have been preceded by extended times
of (quiet and strong) praise to God—who is close about His power to heal.
The NAME of the Lord as His Presence
“Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘Thus you shall bless the sons of Israel. You shall say to them: The Lord
bless you, and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His
countenance on you, and give you peace.’ So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and I then will
bless them” (Num. 6:23-27).
“...the place which the Lord your God shall choose...to establish His name there for His dwelling...”
(Deut. 12:5).
“...the place in which the Lord your God shall choose for His name to dwell...” (Deut. 12:11).
“...the place where He chooses to establish His name...” (Deut. 14:23).
“...the place where the Lord your God chooses to set His name...in the presence of the Lord your God...”
(Deut. 14:24-26).
“...in the place where the Lord chooses to establish His name.” (Deut. 16:2).
“...the place where the Lord your God chooses to establish His name...” (Deut. 16:6).
“...in the place where the Lord your God chooses to establish His name.” (Deut. 16:11).
“...the place which the Lord your God chooses to put His name...” (Deut. 12:21).
“...I have consecrated this house which you have built by putting My name there...” (1 Kings 9:3).
“Then Moses said, ‘I pray You, show me Your glory!’ And He said, ‘I Myself will make all My goodness pass
before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you...” (Exo. 33:18,19).
“And the Lord descended in the cloud and stood there with him as he called upon the name of the Lord” (Exo.
34:5).
“Behold, the name of the Lord comes from a remote place; burning is His anger and dense is His smoke; His lips
are filled with indignation and His tongue is like a consuming fire” (Isa. 30:27)
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst” (Matt. 18:20).
Ministry in His NAME
“Jesus answered them...the works that I do in My Father's name, these bear witness of Me” (John 10:25).
“‘Father, glorify Your name.’ There came therefore a voice out of heaven: ‘I have both glorified
it, and will glorify it again’” (John 12:28).
Appendix C—The NAME of the Lord as His Presence Here 133
“And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see
and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all”
(Acts 3:16).
“But Peter said, ‘I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the
Nazarene-- walk!” (Acts 3:6).
“and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father...” (Rev. 1:6).
“My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him, to minister
to Him, and to be His ministers and burn incense” (2Chron. 29:11).
“At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to
stand before the Lord to serve Him and to bless in His name until this day” (Deut. 10:8).
“Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come near, for the Lord your God has chosen them to
serve Him and to bless in the name of the Lord...” (Deut. 21:5).
“...Aaron was set apart to sanctify him as most holy, he and his sons forever, to burn incense
before the Lord, to minister to Him and to bless in His name forever” (1Chron. 23:13).
“then he shall serve in the name of the Lord his God, like all his fellow Levites who stand there
before the Lord” (Deut. 18:7).
“For the Lord your God has chosen him and his sons from all your tribes, to stand and serve in
the name of the Lord forever” (Deut. 18:5).
“in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our
God and the Lord Jesus Christ” (2Thess. 1:12).
“Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; we have blessed you from the house of the Lord” (Psa.
118:26).
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the
Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19).
Jesus’ and the NAME (Some occurrences refer to the presence of God Himself and some are “for His sake”).
“I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave
them to Me, and they have kept Your word (John 17:6).
“I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep
them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. While I was with
them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them
perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled” (John 17:11,12).
“and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me
may be in them, and I in them” (John 17:26).
“I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another shall come in his own name, you will
receive him” (John 5:43).
134Appendix C—The NAME of the Lord as His Presence Here
“Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father's name, these bear
witness of Me’” (John 10:25).
Prayer in His NAME
“And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me
anything in My name, I will do it” (John 14:13,14).
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit,
and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give
to you” (John 15:16).
“And in that day you will ask Me no question. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you shall ask the
Father for anything, He will give it to you in My name. Until now you have asked for nothing in
My name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full” (John 16:23,24).
“In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request the Father on
your behalf; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed
that I came forth from the Father” (John 16:26,27).
“Should evil come upon us, the sword, or judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and
before You (for Your name is in this house) and cry to You in our distress, and You will hear and deliver us
(2Chron. 20:9).
“And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all
confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your
holy servant Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they
were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:29-31).
Called by His NAME
