2 Tim

Ps Chris on 2 Tim 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2 To Timothy, a beloved son:
Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Timothy’s Faith and Heritage
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, 5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Not Ashamed of the Gospel
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, 10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
Be Loyal to the Faith
13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
15 This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; 17 but when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very zealously and found me. 18 The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day—and you know very well how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesus. 2 Timothy 1

Notes For Verse 1

a [apostles] Greek: apostolos, a delegate, one sent with full power of attorney to act in the place of another, the sender remaining behind to back up the one sent. In the case of Christians it means God sends them to do what He, Himself would do if He went. It is found 81 Times and translated apostle 78 times; messenger twice (2Cor. 8:23; Phil 2:25); and once he that is sent (Jn. 13:16). Acts 15:33

b [promise of life which is in Christ Jesus] Another proof that eternal life is yet a promise, forfeitable until the end of a life of sowing to the Spirit.
Notes For Verse 2
a [son]
b [Grace, mercy, and peace] This salutation is unique to Timothy and Titus.
c [from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord] Another clear reference to two distinct persons of the three who make the Godhead
Notes For Verse 3
a [with pure conscience] I have always tried to please God--even when through ignorance I persecuted the church.
Notes For Verse 4
a [Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy] Note the great love of Paul for Timothy, his mother and grandmother (2Tim. 1:3-5).
Notes For Verse 5
a [When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee] See 2Pet. 1:13; 3:1.
b [unfeigned faith] Sincere faith.
c [first in thy grandmother Lois] She was the first convert. Then the daughter was saved, and finally Timothy. This did not come through heredity, but through prayer and Christian training. Timothy's father was a Greek (Acts 16:1) and since no mention is made of his faith it is possible that he was a heathen and contributed nothing to his son's Christian training.
d [grandmother] Greek: mamme, grandmother. Only here.
Notes For Verse 6
a [Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands] Wherefore--on account of your true faith and consecration, I remind you to stir up the gift of God that is in you. Be faithful even in afflictions according to the power of God in you (2Tim. 1:6-8). The gift is referred to as a fire, which, if not frequently stirred up and more fuel added, will go out. The Greek for "stir up" is anazopureo, to kindle up the fire; to add fresh fuel to it. Only here.
From this it is clear that gifts can be neglected, as Paul warns in 1Tim. 4:14. If this happens, if they are not properly used or replenished with continued grace and power from the Holy Spirit anointing they will become powerless and useless and thus fail in their purpose. This is why people need a constant supply of the Spirit--many fillings, as we see in Acts. This is why Jesus Himself had to live in prayer and receive a constant supply of the Holy Spirit (Lk. 3:21). This is what Paul prayed for and expected in Php. 1:19; Eph. 3:14-21.
Notes For Verse 7
a [For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind] Four things the gift of 2Tim. 1:6 consists of:
Spirit of boldness (Rom. 8:15)
Spirit of power (Lk. 24:49; Acts 1:8; 1Cor. 16:10; 1Tim. 4:14)
Spirit of love (1Cor. 13:4)
Spirit of a sound mind, understanding, and judgment (Gal. 5:22-23)
b [fear] Greek: deilia, cowardice. Only here.
c [power] Greek: dunamis,  inherent power; power to reproduce itself, implying need of constant activity and use for continued reproduction. From this word we get our English dynamo and dynamics--the branch of mechanics dealing with the principles of motion or active operation. Just as a dynamo needs to be in motion to produce power, so one needs to stir up into flame the gift of God in his life (2Tim. 1:6; 1Tim. 4:14).
d [love] Greek: agape, 1Cor. 13:4.
e [sound mind] 1Tim. 2:9; 3:2; Tit. 2:4,6,12.
Notes For Verse 8
a [Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God] Three commands to Timothy:
Be not ashamed of the gospel (2Tim. 1:8; 2:15; Rom. 1:16; Lk. 9:26) Be not ashamed of gospel preachers (2Tim. 1:8,16; Lk. 9:26) Be a partaker of the afflictions of the gospel (2Tim. 1:8; 4:5; Col. 1:24)
Notes For Verse 9
a [Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling ...] Four acts of God:
He saved us.
He called us with an holy calling.
He blessed us by His purpose and grace.
He planned for us before the ages.
b [before the world began] Before the ages of time--in eternity.
Notes For Verse 10
a [But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel] Four acts of Jesus Christ:
He made manifest God's blessings by His personal appearance on earth.
He abolished death.
He brought life through the gospel.
He brought immortality through the gospel.
b [abolished] Greek: katargeo (Law of Commandments Abolished). He cancelled death and will destroy it completely at the end of the Millennium (1Cor. 15:24-28 Rev. 21:4; 22:3).
c [brought life and immortality to light through the gospel] Christ brought to full view the life and immortality of the gospel, actually demonstrating it in His own case as a guarantee of the life and immortality of all who believe the gospel.
Notes For Verse 11
a [Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles]
Seven Facts about Paul
Appointed: preacher of the gospel Appointed: apostle of the gospel Appointed: teacher of Gentiles Suffered for the gospel (2Tim. 1:12) Not ashamed of the gospel, God, or Christ (2Tim. 1:12; Rom. 1:16) Knew in whom he believed (2Tim. 1:12) Persuaded that God is able to keep (guard) that which he committed to Him (Greek: paratheke, deposited; Seven Last Commands to Timothy) until that day (the appearing of Christ, 2Tim. 1:12; 4:8; 1Tim. 6:14)
Notes For Verse 13
a [Hold fast the form of sound words] Two commands to Timothy:
Hold fast the form (Greek: hupotuposis, a sketch; outline; plan; copy; only here and 1Tim. 1:16) of sound words (2Tim. 1:13). The plan of salvation is no human invention. It was planned by God before the ages of time (2Tim. 1:9; Eph. 1:4) and is now manifest through Christ (2Tim. 1:10; Jn. 3:16; 1Pet. 2:24). Keep (guard) that good thing (Greek: paratheke, deposit, a thing given to keep) by the Holy Spirit (2Tim. 1:14). This refers to the gospel that was committed to him (2Tim. 1:13; 1Tim. 3:16). The Holy Ghost and the gifts of God were given him for this purpose (2Tim. 1:6,14; 1Tim. 4:14).
  Notes For Verse 15
a [that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me] Referring to Christians from Asia that were visiting Rome. As one translator gives it, "all the Asiatics have discarded me." Finding Paul in disgrace they showed no interest in him or his cause. Two of them are mentioned here. It would have been truly improbable for all Christians of so many churches to turn against him. That would mean that even Timothy, Lois, Eunice, and other faithful helpers had forsaken him and this was not true (2Tim. 1:5; 4:10-22).
b [Phygellus and Hermogenes] Nothing is known of these two.
a [Onesiphorus] Here is one Asian who had not forsaken him, so "all they which are in Asia" of 2Tim. 1:15 must be understood in the limited sense of some who visited Paul in Rome. He had entertained Paul in Ephesus and sought him out when he visited Rome (2Tim. 1:16-18; 4:19).
b [and was not ashamed of my chain] This suggests that the others were ashamed of Paul in chains. His life had been one of suffering and labor for Christ. Now from all appearances he was abandoned by his friends and in the hands of ruthless men. He was in prison and in chains, yet he was triumphant over all and unshaken in his faith. He felt no evil and feared no man or devil. Sin had lost its power, death its sting, the grave its victory, and hell its torments. No murmuring came from his lips or bitterness from his heart. He was a man's man and God's faithful servant, ready to die for the cause of Christ and the gospel.
Notes For Verse 18
a [The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well] This is simply Paul's prayer and desire for his friend who had often refreshed him in Ephesus and in Rome. Such hospitality does not save the soul, but it adds to the reward in the life to come if it is done with the right motive
(Mt. 6:1,5; 10:40-42).
b [that day] The day of Christ (1Cor. 1:8). 2 Timothy 1

=====================================
2 Tim 2

1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 This is a faithful saying:
For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
12 If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
13 If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.
Approved and Disapproved Workers
14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2

V1
Paul talks to Timothy as a son handing down his wisdom.
"Be strong in Grace that is in Christ Jesus".
talking about the Grace that Christ has purchase for us on the cross as a sacrifice for all our sins.
v2
the same way that you have heard me talk about Christ's Grace that He has given us, teach this Grace to faithful christians so that they can learn and minister it to others as well.
v3
Press in and share Grace and use it like a soldier would use his weapons, bold, courageous and victoriously taking ground for the Kingdom. Share Christ's death, burial and resurrection and the Grace He has given us by this.
v4
No one can please God by doing earthly works.
v5
We must compete by telling of God's Grace found through believing in Christ's death, burial and resurrection. He is the sacrifice that allows God's Grace to save us and receive the crown of glory.
v6
When a farmer looks at the harvest, he chooses the best and choice part and leaves it to produce the best seed for the next season's harvest.
v7
Ask the Lord to help you understand.
V8
Jesus as the best seed of king David, died, was buried and raised in resurrection.
Seed, time and harvest.
v9 Paul ministered this and was chained up, to shut him up.
But God's word cannot be stopped. Others will rise up with the same message of Grace for God's kingdom cannot be stopped. All can receive salvation and spiritual understanding of the resurrection through Christ Jesus and onto eternal life and glory.
v11
Think about this:
Baptism.
If we died with Him
we shall also be resurrected with Him.
our spirit will come alive to God.
We can draw closer to God through Christs blood sacrifice for us.
v12
If we press in, stir up and endure
we shall reign with Him seated in heavenly places
If we deny Him
He will deny us and move away from us.
we will be in the dark.
v13
If we have no faith
He waits and remains faithful for us.
He cannot speak against the words of God
He does what He sees the Father do and speak.
v14
If they do not receive the words you minister, then stop and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom, knowledge and spiritual understanding.
v15
Stay on track and speak the word of God truthfully. Don't be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Put down the flesh, have self-control. Hear what the spirit is saying.
The word of God is a 2-edged sword which will rightfully divide The Truth and set us free.
v16
Don't get in augments over the things of the world.
The resurrection has not passed.
v18
To talk on anything contrary or worldly will dilute our faith so talk about God and what He's done and said. Testify what the blood of the lamb has done in your life. The Grace you live your life out of in the spirit.
v19
God know every one's heart; He knows who belong to Him. He sees all.

For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11
V21
By cleansing ourselves and believing in Christ, that He died, was buried and was resurrected, we will be born again with Him, a vessel of honour, sanctified by the blood and useful for God. Ready and prepared to carry and advance the Kingdom of God, doing every good work.
v22
Ask God for self-control to stay away from the world and all its lusts of the flesh in it.
As a soldier pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace by the side of those called out by the Lord, showing a pure heart open to God's heart felt changes.
v23
Don't enter into conversations leading into strife, but instead be gentle, teach and ask for patience in humility.
v24
As the Holy Spirit corrects you, teach those in opposition through the words of God as the Holy Spirit ministers to you, minister this to others.
Be a channel of His peace.
v25
Ask in pray that God would open their hearts to a revelation of repentance so that Gods truth will enter in.
v26
they will then come to their senses seeing the devils work for what it is and turn around rejecting it. This will cause them to overcome by declaring Jesus as their Lord and savior, born of God.

He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 1 John 3:8-9
===========================
2Tim3

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.
10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3

v1
this list of evil things that men do is all the counterfeit that the devil would try and use to lead us away from God. his purpose is to take our worship in the spirit away from God and onto him.
Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9
This is presented to lead us to worship the devil and his glory and take our vision off God and God's Glory. Maybe we should prayerfully go through this list and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything we need to repent of. Anything that would take our vision off of God and into the devil's playground.
v2
For men will be lovers of themselves,
lovers of money,
boasters,
proud,
blasphemers,
disobedient to parents,
unthankful,
unholy.
v3
unloving,
unforgiving,
slanderers,
without self-control,
brutal,
despisers of good,
v4
traitors,
headstrong,
haughty,
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
v5
having a form of godliness,
but denying its power.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. Matthew 12:32
And from such people turn away!
Denying or being against the power of the Holy Spirit.
If here he's talking about those who make out to be Christian, even sound like they are christians but
are against the Holy Spirits power within us when we declared Christ as our saviour then is he saying we should not bother spending any more time but just turn away. Don't get caught up in their way of thinking.
v6
This verse is about deception.
to creep into is a motive to have another agenda other than say Christianity.
their objective is to win over by deception and mislead into an act of sin, then use this as a threat to expose their victim's foolishness and keep them in sin using lust as a hook of pleasure. To keep their hearts locked in the physical and away from God's grace.
v7
because of their sin they can never draw closer to God but feel further away and so can never receive any knowledge of God's truth.
v8
Jannes and Jambres The names of the magicians who stood against Moses and exercised satanic power until stopped by God.
moses through down his rod and it turned into a serpent snake, but these two made counterfeit serpent snakes using satanic powers, but God stopped them by destroying their magic.
the devil will always use something to take our minds away from what God wants us to know.
Every time the Holy Spirit reveals a truth to us, we need to have self-control to cast off any restraint the enemy may deploy. Here Moses reveals God's power but the devil working through these men immediately deployed a counterfeit to take our focus off God's spiritual power at work.
v9
Paul then goes onto show us how we should live our lives in the God's spiritual power, the Holy Spirit.
If we know and study the truth and the right way to lead our lives, meditating on God's word and working out our salvation, then when something which is not of God's leading will stand out as wrong and we can resist the devil.
I read once that they dont study counterfeit bank notes in order to detect counterfeit bank note, but they study the legitimate bank note because there are to many possibilities to fake notes. By studying the legitimate bank note the fake automatically becomes evident.
Believe the same is for us. If we study, meditate, listen to God's way then what is counterfeit from the devil will be easy to discern.
v10
Carefully followed:
my doctrine,
manner of life,
purpose,
faith,
patience, endurance,
Love,
perseverance.
we need to listen to the Holy Spirit and ask God to renew a right thought life in us. Only in God's power and strength will we succeed.
v11
things will come against us as we take ground. we will meet resistance, so we need to have a mind set to be victorious and overcome in Gods power and strength.
v12
Living in Christ Jesus is the answer to living a Godly life
God will supply all of our needs though His riches in Glory. We need to trust Him in our hour of weakness and trouble.
v13
those who are not led by the Holy Spirit will be lead by the devil,
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
v14
The Holy Spirit will lead us to live, move and have our being in the Kingdom of God. We must have our heart and passion centred on and in Christ.
v15
when we first accept Christ as our Lord and saviour, we begin to read the scriptures as the Holy Spirit reveals them to us. This will make us wise for salvation through our faith which is in Christ Jesus.
v16
Every word that is written in the original text of the Bible has been revealed by the Holy Spirit from God Himself. This is a road map for us to follow and along the journey of these word in the bible we will see a straight path we can follow.
God is saying to us
 ‘I will go before you
And make the crooked places straight;
I will break in pieces the gates of bronze
And cut the bars of iron.
3 I will give you the treasures of darkness
And hidden riches of secret places,
That you may know that I, the LORD,
Who call you by your name,
Am the God of Israel. Isaiah 45:2-3
v17
It is God's desire to see us as He sees His Son.
complete, and ready to go to work in the Kingdom of God and establish His Church on His Word, through His Spirits.

2Tim4

1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
9 Be diligent to come to me quickly; 10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry. 12 And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come—and the books, especially the parchments.
14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm. May the Lord repay him according to his works. 15 You also must beware of him, for he has greatly resisted our words.
16 At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them.
17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18 And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!
Come Before Winter
19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus stayed in Corinth, but Trophimus I have left in Miletus sick.
21 Do your utmost to come before winter.
Eubulus greets you, as well as Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brethren.
Farewell
22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

V1
I earnestly want you to believe and be a conduit to others of what I'm saying. As I stand before God and our Lord Jesus Christ in the spiritual world right here and now, who is judge in this heavenly court room of God and is not only judging us but those who died before when His glorious manifestation and His kingdom appear. Here he's just come out of an earthly court room of judgement and is now revealing to us that his thoughts are on God's court room throughout this ordeal.
V2
Prepare yourself to preach the divine truth of God's Word. The rheme of the word by the Holy Spirit's revelation. Whether or when the opportunity occurs or not. if you feel it's the right time or not. even if your in a court room charged with preaching Jesus.
Convince, sow seeds to bring the light of Jesus into their thoughts.
rebuke, stand against the ways of the world with its religions and its spiritual sabotage of God's way of worship. reveal the right way towards God by His word and lead them into repentance and help them draw closer to God.
exhort, lift up Christ, the Son of God and His name,
with all Patience being steadfast in the way we teach the word of God, revealing the true revelation of Christ. praise and encourage them when they repent and draw closer to God.
V3
Some because of their sin will move away from God to find something else to edify themselves.
looking for other teachings than God's that make them feel better and never wanting to repent of the things they know are wrong.
v4
because the truth reveals the sin within themselves, they turn away from God's word and to the ways of the world
v5
be careful and watch and meditate on God's word to feed yourself on His spiritual food. Take it on the chin to show others the truth and reveal God's heart to others. Understand your ministry and learn from the Holy Spirit leading to help others receive God's grace and salvation in Christ Jesus. Evangelize all God speaks through His Spirit to you for others.
v6
Jesus talked about His drink offering
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:20
the word here shed is the same word Paul uses, 'poured out', leaning on this we understand Paul is talking of his revealing everything he can of the new covenant as an evangelist and how the blood of Christ destroys the enemies work of sin in us. He's committed all His written teaching from his life's work to bring others into the Kingdom of God.
v7
As he senses his time to depart this world is coming, he's declaring his work complete and that he never stopped believing in faith to reach the finish line and take the prize.
v8
His vision of heaven, showing him, that Christ is there waiting to hand him his crowning prize.
he knows that he has stayed in Christ's rightful justification and grace and mercy and that he will meet with others who have run the same race and crossed the finish line and seen and loved the power of the resurrection in Christ.
v9
drop everything and make you way here. don't get sidetracked.
v10
Paul believes he has a very short time left before he departs to heaven.
v10
others have decided to give into the better ways of living and left him to preach in easier places. Guessing that in the court room there would have been others ready and waiting to convict whoever stood by him for believing in Jesus as the Son of God, and in fear of being imprisoned they backed off and left.
v11
Luke has stayed with him probably as a scribe to write down his last words. he asks for Mark to come and write down his last words as well.
Tychicus he sends to evangelize Ephesus.
But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you; 22 whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts. Ephesians 6:21-22
v13
Paul asks for his cloak because its getting closer to winter or may be a symbol of authority, healing or anointing. Like Elijah when he threw his cloak.
19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. 1 Kings 19:19
acts of faith, and miracles were often happening when Paul passed by. Even Jesus had a women touch his garment to activate her faith. The laying on of hands was to impart a healing gift of the Holy Spirit.

11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, Acts 19:11
also go find writings he left in other places, his life's work, he asks to be with him. may be so Mark and Luke could catchup on anything they missed in the writings they were doing as scribes.
v14
Paul mentions Alexander as someone who opposes Paul's teaching. This could even be the thorn in Pauls side.
And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 2 Corinthians 12:7
Alexander could be the messenger of Satan. even someone that could have been in the court giving evidence against Paul to convict him.
v15
there is always going to be someone who is against Christ so beware and have a defence.
v16
at this point Paul is in the court room, pleading his case and it appears that all those who would be his defence have lost their courage and become fearful, losing their faith and moving elsewhere to easier places to witness. Paul then prays for them that nothing would go after them and that God would keep them safe. A true way of blessing those who are fearful of evangelizing in circumstances. He wants them to overcome and prosper in their mission.
v17
He then goes on to say that the Lord strengthens him to witness, standing with him in his defence of the gospel. it was very clear that the Holy Spirit was blessing him and opening a door for him to preach to the Jews and gentiles the full gospel of Christ even in this oppressive circumstance of court and prison.
v18
Paul now prophecies of his deliverance from every form of evil, keeping him safe in the Kingdom of God, till the end by the power of God. Then follows by giving God all the glory for everything that is happening and the opportunity to talk about the gospel.
19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:19-20
v19
now he begins to ask Timothy to find faithful Christians when he arrives. These were those whom I believe Paul had personally brought to Christ and as a letter of introduction for trustworthy Christians.
Aquila
2 And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome); and he came to them. 3 So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers. Acts 18:2-3
we can understand that these are Jewish Christians who were part of the exodus of Roman by Emperor Claudius at the time. This may have been because the Jews objected to the teachings of Jesus Christ as the Messiah and constantly asked the Romans to fix it. So a displacement accrued at that time in Rome. Not sure how many Jews would have been kicked out of Rome but maybe Rome thought Jews and Christian to be the same and moved the lot out. Some would have gone into hiding as well creating underground churches.
Onesiphorus, here is one Asian who had not turn away from him, so "all they which are in Asia" of some who visited Paul in Rome. He had entertained Paul in Ephesus and sought him out when he visited Rome.
v20
Erastus
23 Gaius, my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, greets you, and Quartus, a brother. 24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Romans 16:23-24
Trophimus
29 (For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
30 And all the city was disturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut. Acts 21:29-30
v21
winter would have been a hard time to evangelize as most in that region would want to stay indoors and very little socializing would have gone on. Possibly the only place to preach would have been the temple were everyone gathered in the winter.
Eubulus says hi, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia.
The four names in this verse are found only here but would have been faith people who Timothy could contact when he came into the city. They would most likely help him find the church and greet the rest of the faithful Christians.
v22
finally, Paul prays and encourages them to move in the spirit and seek the Lord Jesus Christ as much as possible. to move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit which would help them evangelize in God's power and grace.

Titus 1

1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, 3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;
4 To Titus, a true son in our common faith:
Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
Qualified Elders
5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you— 6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.
The Elders’ Task
10 For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars
, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth. 15 To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work. Titus 1
----------------------
V1
Paul, one who gives himself up to God's will whose service is used by Christ in extending and advancing His cause among men devoted to the disregard of one's own interests.
there is two parts to apostleship.
Faith of God's elect and full knowledge, of the truth which is after godliness.
The new nature must be put on and it must manifest righteousness and true holiness.
in effect we expose ourselves. all our fault and failures placing them on the cross and covering them in Christ's blood. Moving now in His grace and Mercy to draw closer to God, in this new nature and seen by God as His child with all that goes with God's Sonship and inheritance.
24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24
v2
In hope of eternal life
The simple truth is that hope is now given to everyone who is in Christ on condition of remaining in Him.
21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. 22 And therefore “it was accounted to Him for righteousness.”
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to Him, 24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. Romans 4:21-25

God who cannot lie,

“God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Numbers 23:19
To whom such promise was announced, that God would give eternal life to men who were not yet created, is not known. If He made such a plan before the ages of time or in eternity past, then was He speaking to the Son of God in eternity past?
22 Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” Genesis 3:22
v3
5 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.” Acts 9:15-16
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. Galatians 1:15-17
And I went up by revelation and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain. 3 Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. Galatians 2:2-3
Paul would most likely never prepare a sermon but being in the spirit through on the spot revelation from the Holy Spirit preach.
v4
Titus had faith in all that Paul shared being that Pauls preaching was always based on God's word as a solid foundation.
Paul would always ask God through Jesus for:
Grace: charis, the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude.
Mercy: eleos, kindness or good will towards the miserable and the afflicted, joined with a desire to help them through salvation.
Peace: eirēnē, the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot.
v5
As Paul had so much faith in Titus with the leading of the Holy Spirit, he sent him to Crete.
He knew that the job couldn't be done by him alone so Titus first job was to duplicate himself and create faithful elders full of the Holy Spirit to complete the work.
v6
The fruits of the spirit must manifest in these elders.
blameless,
the husband of one wife,
true love not worldly.
having faithful children
bringing them up in the faith of Christ.
not accused of dissipation
or insubordination.
v7
a steward of God,
What would Jesus do? always seeking the way of the Holy Spirit
not self-willed,
stop thinking about what you can get out of it and look to ways of loving your brother and sister as God would love them.
not quick-tempered,
Just because something is not going your way doesn't mean they are wrong.
not given to wine,
Addiction, no self-control over alcohol or substance abuse.
not violent,
someone who is ready for a blow, confrontation, physical force to dominate.
not greedy for money,
The love of money being the root or foundation of your life's work and desire.
v8
but hospitable,
generous to welcome, look after, lift up your church family or the misfortunate, left behind. open to receive and help
a lover of what is good,
always looking for the good in others, edifying them, being concerned about others welfare.
sober-minded,
being influenced by the Holy Spirit not the world ways.
just,
being God minded, set on His judgement and justification, not ours.
holy,
In tune with the Holy Spirit
self-controlled,
Have the gift of the Spirit to control our daily adventure in the Kingdom of God.
v9
holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine,
both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

this shows us that we need to repent of and correct ourselves with God help and vision before we go onto help others understand the gospel.
nobody is perfect and not one of us is sinless, so we need the Grace, Mercy and Peace of God on the church and His word to convict us to turn to God and draw closer, keeping us in line with the Holy Spirits help and lifting each other up. helping others see the truth when they wonder from it.
 v10
There are a lot who are following the Old Testament who are disobedient and unruly, people who talk about senseless things, seducers who make you do things you shouldn't. people who are selfish and domineering. out for their own gain. using the church to sell their products to households for their own gain instead of teaching the gospel.
May be so caught up in the world's news rather than God's news of the gospel of Christ.
May be those who are still caught up in the old book of the law and not the teachings of Jesus which only brings in bondage to sin and no redemption through the blood.
v11
we must stand up for the truth of God's grace and correct any false teaching straight away.
allow the Holy Spirit to reveal any hidden agendas, altera motives, dishonesty, made up ideas, fables, lead away from the truth in God's word.
If it's not scriptural, its false!
v12
beware of self-confessed prophets who don't line up with God's word. test them and rebuke them.
v13
stand your ground and tell them to their faces, 'no, don't believe it,' this is the truth from God's word and that we are here to preach Jesus and the kingdom of God and the faith we find in His grace.
v14
don't give into made up stories or trying to follow the letter of the law by works, turning away from the grace of Jesus Christ who had redeemed us from that curse and delivered us from the letter of the law and into His Faith.
v15
to those who have washed themselves in the blood of Jesus, they are pure, redeem, sanctified and set free. those who have not accepted Jesus as their Lord and saviour, they are full of sin which condemns them pushing them further away from God. they feel contaminated in their sin. unclean, falling into anxiety, depression and suicide, egged on by the devil,
v16
thinking that their work will make God be please with them but never having a relationship through Jesus and by grace being saved through faith. Having no understand of what God's grace is and how unmerited favour is at the heart of God for all who will receive.
never knowing what it's like to have the Holy Spirit convict and correct us and turn us back to God's path.
